America Ferrera Harnessing the Power of Story for Social Change

Known for her powerful performances in Ugly Betty, Barbie, and beyond, America Ferrera has long proven that storytelling can inspire, shift minds, and move people to act. But her impact reaches far beyond Hollywood. As a co-founder of Harness, Ferrera has dedicated her voice to something bigger: building a more just and inclusive world through the power of narrative.

Founded in 2016 in response to a surge in fear and division, Harness began as a space for artists, activists, and community leaders to come together in solidarity. Ferrera, alongside her husband Ryan Piers Williams and friend Wilmer Valderrama, believed that those with influence had a responsibility to amplify the voices of those often left unheard. Their mission was clear — help marginalized communities tell their stories on their terms, and use those stories to drive cultural and political change.

Under Ferrera’s leadership, Harness has grown into a dynamic nonprofit that collaborates with creatives and advocates to shift public narratives around race, gender, immigration, and justice. Through curated experiences, workshops, and digital campaigns, the organization equips artists and influencers with the tools to use their platforms for good.

Ferrera’s commitment to equity isn’t limited to her work with Harness. She’s been a vocal advocate for Latino representation in media, immigration reform, voting rights, and gender equality. She’s spoken at the Women’s March, testified before Congress, and served as an ambassador for Voto Latino and Save the Children. Her activism is consistent, thoughtful, and rooted in lived experience.

In both her creative work and her advocacy, America Ferrera makes it clear: stories are instruments of truth, empathy, and justice. With Harness, she’s creating a world where everyone’s voice matters.
