Zendaya Honors Her Beginnings with Major Theater Donation
Zendaya is giving back to the place where her career began. Recently, the 29-year-old actor partnered with the Women Donors Network. Together, they donated $100,000 to the California Shakespeare Theatre in Oakland, California.
The money will support the theatre’s North Star Fund. Specifically, the fund helps cover upgrades, productions, and future plans. In addition, it ensures the theatre can continue to grow. Leena Barakat, president and CEO of the Women Donors Network, shared her support. She explained that the grant will strengthen the theatre’s mission and vision.
Meanwhile, Clive Worsley, the theatre’s executive director, thanked Zendaya for her contribution. He added that the donation comes at an important time. In fact, the company is preparing for its 50th anniversary season.
The theatre opened in 1974 and remains popular today. During the summer, audiences gather at the outdoor Bruns Amphitheatre. Notably, Zendaya has a personal connection to the theatre. Her mother worked there for 12 summers. As a result, Zendaya spent much of her childhood around the stage.
The theatre will use the donation to improve sound and lighting systems. Additionally, it plans to upgrade the café. At the same time, the funding will support new productions. For example, the theatre will stage a special anniversary performance of As You Like It, directed by Elizabeth Carter.
Overall, Zendaya’s gift highlights her commitment to the arts. More importantly, it shows her desire to support the community that shaped her early career.
